Where it all began.

The South London Magic Society first began from an idea of a well known magician of the day called Jimmy Winter, famous for his Dove Act. He discussed the ideas with another popular name of that time, one Eric P Wilson, and in April 1948 they formed The London Magic Guild and after the first year had nine members. They met once fortnightly in a local hall in West Norwood, and later moved to Stanley Halls at South Norwood where they staged shows to raise money for the club and local charities.

Past Members.
Several past members went on to become well known names among the magical fraternity such as, Arthur Carter, Terry Herbert and Howard Peters. The society remained at Stanley Halls at South Norwood for many years with various changes of membership, and at one time looked like disbanding as numbers gradually decreased through various reasons. Then an advertisement was placed in the studios of Geoff Maltbys Repro 71 and as a result enquiries came in and numbers were on the increase again!!

New Premises were found in South Norwood and our reputation grew as one of the friendliest clubs in the South, membership went from strength to strength. Our members come from all walks of life with various performing skills and interests, from the novice to working professionals, all sharing a common interest in the worlds most fascinating pursuit.
